Tech modernisation drives cost efficiencies and upskills Springer Nature’s teams

Springer Nature is one of the world’s leading research publishers and a pioneer in open research. The company needed to improve its authors' open access (OA) experience by replacing legacy systems that were impacting it. Crosstide provided engineering teams to upskill in-house teams, ensuring a successful migration that reduced operating costs.

Client story - Springer Nature

The challenge

Global growth in open access (OA) led to a complex payment landscape, prompting Springer Nature to introduce a new platform for a streamlined OA experience. With legacy systems in place, they enlisted Crosstide to help migrate journals and enable the team to introduce new features.

The solution

Crosstide restructured Springer Nature’s programme by creating three autonomous, product-led engineering teams that collaboratively shaped roadmaps.

Using tools like Google Analytics, Grafana, and CSAT dashboards, Crosstide improved monitoring and provided valuable user insights, facilitating the migration of journals and accounts to a unified platform.

The result

Crosstide fostered a collaborative environment focused on customer-centric development with enhanced user insights from analytics tools. Coaching and mentoring helped staff gain diverse skills and confidence, ensuring development, analysis, product, and delivery success.

The collaboration led to a strategic shift toward customer-centric development, leveraging analytics for greater customer journey insight.

The migration of over 500 journals also reduced infrastructure costs whilst setting Springer Nature up for future growth.

Reaching out to Crosstide was the best way to bring specific skill sets around data, monitoring, and analytics. We were especially looking for help to build robust frameworks around analysis, and this is just one area where the Crosstide team brought their expertise to the table.”
